Puerto Rico by Mobil (1966)

This touring map of Puerto Rico is a Rand McNally & Co. brochure produced by Mobil Oil in 1966. It includes a map of the entire island, a street map of San Juan, and insets of notable cities.

The main colors of this brochure are navy blue, red, and white — which are the colors of Mobil Oil and also closely mimic the colors of the Puerto Rican flag.

From the JCS Collection.

There is an index in the center of the map that assigns a Number-Letter to each map zone. It expands to either side to view a map of the full island or a map of San Juan.

All the information in the legend is provided in both English and Spanish. At the bottom, we can find the “Copyright 1966 by Rand McNally & Co.” statement.

The map also features an older Mobil logo. The red Pegasus was adopted as Mobil’s U.S. trademark in 1931.
